Easter always
corresponds with the season of spring. For Christians it is a great festival of joy and
celebration. We know that winter does not last forever and the days gradually lengthen and
new growth and signs of life appear. In the same way Christians celebrate the fact that
death is not the end of our life but death is swallowed up in victory.
Sometimes against all the odds we discover our lives do have meaning and a purpose good
has triumphed over evil, love has conquered fear and life is stronger than death. This we
know because of the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. So convinced were the
first Christians of these things that they called Jesus Lord.
This year we
look forward to Easter against a backcloth of great world tension and difficulties. War with Iraq looks
increasingly likely as I write this. Our
Easter hope is that after the most evil that the human race can inflict upon itself the
love and victory of Easter will bring a new life and new joy to the world.
This joyful
faith is celebrated at Easter. The church with all its weaknesses, tries to witness to the
saving love of God shown to us' that whilst we were still sinners Christ died for us' in
order that we might live with God forever.

Palm Sunday
On Palm
Sunday there is a real wish this year to have a proper procession of witness. Last year disappointment was expressed that we did
not process outside. This year we are taking
the bold step of inviting all of you who are able bodies to meet at 09.00am at Mostyn Road Gardens and to
process from there to the church. The
procession will be a silent procession of witness carrying palms. We hope that we can arrive at church around 09-30am
to start our Palm Sunday Parish Eucharist. There
will be NO 08.00am service on
Palm Sunday.
Maundy
Thursday
On Maundy
Thursday after the evening Eucharist and in place of the traditional Vigil Parish Players
are performing The Darkest Night. Click here for details of
this; my
hope that people of all ages will come to this event as a preparation for Easter.
Good
Friday
We
are fortunate to have as our conductor and preacher at the main service on Good Friday
Canon Jeffrey John the Canon Theologian of Southwark cathedral. Jeffrey is one of the leading writers and thinkers
within the church and is in much demand as a speaker.
As part of our Holy Week worship I do hope you will come for all or part of
the service on Good Friday.
Holy Saturday
The Easter
Ceremonies and the lighting of the Paschal Candle will take place at 8.00pm
Annual Church Meeting
This takes
place on Sunday 27th
April at 11.15am in the hall. I read at a school recently the following sentence. Nobody can do everything, everybody can do
something. Will you come and take your part in
the church community and offer what you can for Gods work and the extension of His
Kingdom.
Your priest
and friend
Tom Leary
