Dear Parishioners/Friends

There is a song that has the line ‘time goes by so slowly and time can tell so much’. For Jan and I the opposite has been the case. It seems that time has flown by and the days since we had our farewell from Merton Park have passed very quickly. During that time we have often thought of you. I realise that we have not written anything for the magazine so hasten to rectify this omission. Jan & I want to say a big thank you for our warm and generous send off.

After June 17th we had the remainder of the packing to do, a holiday in the Scillies, and the rather chaotic move in the midst of the floods. The chaos was caused by the under estimate of the necessary resources by the removers. This meant that deadlines came and went and we eventually arrived in Shropshire just before midnight on the day of the removal. I have become an authority on Local Authority Waste sites, charity shops and can I commend to you - ‘Freecycle’ groups – the green way to dispose of unwanted possessions without them going into a landfill site- In other words we have downsized.

Jan has been very fortunate to find a workroom and showroom about 3 miles from us in a village called Brampton Bryan on the Harley estate. There are several other Artisans there. Jan has been given a warm welcome and local people are very interested in her creations and creativity.

Those of you who have moved know what a stressful business it can be but friends who came to visit us recently described us as ‘a good advertisement for retirement’. So you can see we have settled in well and can now receive visitors! For me the biggest change has been having free evenings and week-ends. I still wonder at having them without work connected appointments.
So you are much in our thoughts and prayers as the process of finding a successor gets underway. Jan and I are most grateful for the gifts, party, bar-b-q, worship and reception on that splendid last Sunday. We are especially grateful to all those who organised and worked for those events. Did you notice it was the only sunny Sunday in June?

Although distance does mean we don’t see each other as often as we might like, in the wonderful world of our God, we can keep each other in mind and in our prayers.

We shall keep you all close to our hearts.

With our love and blessings.

Tom & Jan Leary
