We
know that through prayer the Holy Spirit provides us with inspiration and
direction and linked prayer on a particular issue or event allows that
inspiration and direction to be defined and focused. Prayer not only
affects those who pray but those to whom prayer is directed.
For
these reasons we invite every member of the congregation of St Mary’s
to spend some time in church on Thursday 23rd September
between
7.00am and
10.00pm
to be a link in a chain of prayer. The prayers will be for the speakers and
all who will attend or who will be involved in “Talking Points” which will
take place each evening of the following week commencing Monday (27th
September), until Friday (1st October)
You
will find details about the speakers and their subjects elsewhere in this
issue. Prayers and passages of scripture and linked material will be
available in church for those who would find them helpful. To punctuate the
day there will be Matins, a morning Eucharist, Evensong, an evening
Eucharist and Compline. If you were unable to come to church your prayers
wherever you might be would be important, but your presence in church would
also encourage others in their commitment.
A
sheet will be posted in the bell tower divided into half hour slots for you
to enter your name. There will be plenty of space in each slot but if you
see one that is empty you are encouraged to fill it to maintain the prayer
chain throughout the day.
We
know that if each of us is willing to sacrifice some time for prayer on 23rd
September, that time will not be wasted and the Church will be richly
blessed.
