We
have decided to hold St Mary's Gift Day on Saturday 11th September, the
weekend of our Patronal Festival, to make a financial appeal to Parishioners
to support our outward giving , particularly as we are holding no Summer
Fair this year.
The
Church will be open from
11
am
to
6pm
on this second Saturday in September for you to make your donations, which
will be used exclusively to support St Mary's chosen charities.
The
charities we are supporting this year will again be
-
United Society for the Propagation of the Gospel - 30%
-
Church Missionary Society - 30%
-
Spires Centre, St Leonards, Streatham - 10%
-
St
Mark's Family Centre, Mitcham - 10%
-
Physically Handicapped and Able Bodied Club, Merton - 5%
-
Beehive Club, Merton - 5%
-
Welcare - 10%
These are the charities that will also be benefiting from various special
events taking place this year, including the concert and plant sale that
have already taken place, as well as a coffee morning on 21 August at
Barbara Clayton's house and a barn dance on November 20th which Ian Aldridge
and I will be organising.
In
total our goal is to raise £5,000 for this 2004 year outward giving,
including the tax we should be able to claim back from your donations. So
far we have raised £464 from the concert and £100 from the plant sale so we
have some way to go. Our fair in the summer normally raises £3000 or so
which is the gap we need to make up with this Gift Day..
Please let the Churchwardens or me know if you would like to organise an
event or help with publicity or collection of the funds on the Gift Day.
Thank you!
