I
want to action the auction of promises. Will you help, please? - by making
promises on the enclosed flyer. In this, there is no need to be there on the
night– though of course we hope you will be. The purpose of it all: the
support of good causes beyond the parish boundaries.
Most
of the sales will be of promises of services; with just a few paintings and
similar effects sold. It happens that some paintings have come my way – of
old
Merton Park, before the Great War; handed to me for just such an occasion as
our auction sale. So we have a beginning. If you have effects for selling,
please contact Alan Morris (020 8540 9443 or e-mail
alanmorris.training@tiscali.co.uk.
Now
what of the promises? These, I trust, will be forthcoming in great numbers.
I look to all parishioners. Please dive in: offer a service; make new
friends; fill a need; impart pleasure; use your skills. We have done this
thing before. It worked last time; it will work again.
Please complete and return the flyer enclosed, to one of the Church Wardens,
Joy Mills or Alan Morris. We shall all be very grateful and highly
delighted.
To
help with ideas, here are examples of promises sold, under the hammer, on
that earlier occasion. Do any of these add up to you? Or are there others
that only you know? Computers?; e-mails?; videos?; internet?; general
maintenance?; unblocking drains? (one of my specialities); cleaning
windows?; putting up pictures?; taking down curtains?; painting front doors?
Here are ideas from last time:
