I am writing from our new
home in St Albans where we are still unpacking and making our house ready
for Christmas.
It was quite an
overwhelming experience on our last Sunday to hear Tom, Patricia, Ian, Sue
and Francesca’s recollections of memorable events in our 30 years in the
parish…….some things about which I had quite forgotten.
It was also quite
overwhelming to receive such generous farewell gifts from you all – two
large suitcases which we have since used during our house move and will use
for holidays – and a cheque which will enable me to replace my now rather
elderly vestments.
It was good to be able
to talk individually to many people with whom we have become great friends
and whom we shall miss greatly.
I am presently waiting
for an interview and decision as to where I will serve in St Albans and I
will write again when I have more news.
St Alban’s, for those
who don’t know it, is a delightful city sitting on high ground with the
abbey visible from many miles away. Our house was built in the 60’s as
apart of a small development in a conservation area forming part of the
ancient parish of St Michael and so we are surrounded by historical
references with a view from our front garden of a barn which was registered
in the Doomsday book. We have a lot to explore and the coming year should
give us a better opportunity to get to know St Albans.
I would like to thank
you all again for your support over the years, and particularly Tom for his
encouragement in my pre and post ordination training. Your kindness and
generosity and prayers have really been appreciated. You all remain in our
prayers and you will never be forgotten.
We shall miss you.
Audrey joins me in
sending you best wishes for the New Year.
