This month's Magazine Homepage

Didn't we have a lovely day the day we had a picnic -a beautiful day we had lunch on the way and drank our Jubilee/ee punch…”

That is the most verse I can make up, so now I will tell you a story. In the Spring issue of FORUM - a newsletter issued by the Merton Park Ward Residents Association I saw an article mentioning that the various Societies of Merton Park were going to hold a Queen's Jubilee Community Picnic in the Glebe Field on the 3rd of June, 2002.

They needed help to organise this event and on Monday 3rd of June we saw the end results of various meetings held at 10 Church Path (our thanks to Chris Stutt for her hospitality and for the cups of coffee/biscuits supplied).

What a wonderful day it was, so many adults and children turned up and a great day was had by all. The sight of so many families/friends sitting around enjoying their picnic; face painting -many happy children's faces sporting Union Jacks, Spidermen, tigers etc. -all the fun races, which climaxed in Dad's wanting sack races, Mum's wanting egg/spoon races - family relays -all budding athletes for the coming Commonwealth Games in July ??

The parade of so many super Crowns—(thanks Mums). I could go on and on, but before lend a "big-big thank-you" to every helper and we had so many good ones on the day. It would be difficult to single out anyone person) but I must mention Alison & David Cowie who kindly let us run the refreshments from their back door ~ Graham McCubbin who was in charge on the day and helped us all and stopped any panic attacks;

Jillian Ashton (our newly elected MPWRA Councillor) who produced the super certificates we were able to present to everybody who took part in the Fun Races, also to the John Innes Society for the loan of the tables/chairs.

Now is the time to close and say "WELL DONE" Merton Park residents for making the Party such a huge success.
