Vicar's July Letter

Pilgrimage
Pilgrimage has always been part of the Christian tradition and I know in the past that people from the parish have been on a pilgrimage together.  I also know of individuals who have been on a pilgrimage and found it to be a very rich experience.  I have been sent details of a possible Pilgrimage to Iona, the centre of Celtic spirituality, off the West Coast of Scotland.  It would be a 6 day pilgrimage in September 2005.

The itinerary includes coach travel to Oban with overnight stop in the Lake District.  Cross by ferry to Mull and Iona 2 whole days on Iona and return via overnight stop in the Lake District.  The price for this tour includes insurance, coach, return ferry services between Oban and the Isle of Mull, and half board accommodation.  Lunch, public transport costs and the cost of the return foot  ferry from Iona to Mull are not included.

The dates are from Sunday September 11th to Friday 16th September.  The more who go the cheaper it gets.  There will be opportunities for prayer, reflection and worship and drawing closer to God as well as an introduction to Celtic Spirituality and wonderful scenery.  If a minimum of 20 people go the cost is £499, 25 £459, 30 £429 and so on.  If you are interested in this Iona Pilgrimage please could you let me know by the end of July?  If 25 people want to go then I think it would be a really worthwhile experience.  There will also be a list in the porch to sign.

Talking Points
Plans are well in hand for ‘Talking Points’ and I hope you have got the dates in your diaries. They are Monday September 27th until Friday October 1st. The first publicity about this event will appear this month.  The Box Office for tickets will open in August.  It will be up to us to bring our friends and neighbours to all or some of the evenings.  I can assure you that it will be interactive, informative and stimulating.  I hope that it will be an apologia for our faith in the 21st century.  It is an opportunity for real mission and outreach but is relies heavily on our enthusiasm for our faith and our willingness to witness to our faith by engaging with others.

 Your priest and friend

 Tom Leary
