I am sure the great Auction Houses of London do not
have an interval for a fish and chip meal during their sales! But we did and how welcome
it was. The whole evening went without a hitch, thanks to all the hard work done
beforehand by Graham Clark, Diana Cairns, Anita Simpson and Bruce Robertson, who collected
and stored the items, for some weeks, in their garages and nooks and crannies in their
homes, and finally took them to the hall, labelled and displayed them. More hard work on
the actual day by Joyce Clay who typed up the catalogue, Sue Ritson, Hilary Yates and
Maria Cheetham who served the supper, and with great skill held up each article for sale,
(light heavy and awkward!) for people to see and bid for. David Simpson dispersed the wine
and Derek Cox and John Gout were the cashiers.. Our sincere thanks to them all.
The Auction was under the watchful eye of our expert auctioneer Chris
Spencer who we are greatly indebted to for all his advice and the wonderful way he cajoled
us into bidding in the evening! There were plenty of bargains to bid for ranging from £1
- £100 and everybody went home happy with their lot.
However none of this would have been possible without the splendid
variety of items donated by members of our Parish, to whom we are very grateful And I am
sure they will be very pleased to know that the items not sold are going to our Summer
Fair on June 22nd, which again is being held for Church Funds.
So was this Auction a success? Absolutely! For the profit of £2,700
has paid in full the repair to the heating system, which had been giving problems during
the winter, and there is still a small sum left over.
It was a great evening another? Perhaps in five years time!!
