Music
During
May we said good-bye to John Eagles who had been our Director of Music
for 4 years. I am pleased to be able to announce that we have appointed
James Gutteridge, at present organist at St. Matthew’s Surbiton, as Mr
Eagle's successor. James, although only 25, comes to us with a strong
musical background. He was a chorister in Leicester Cathedral choir, a
church organist from the age of 13, and a music graduate from
Roehampton College.
James has worked in a
variety of settings and is an enthusiastic and highly competent
musician. I believe he will bring all these qualities plus a deep
Christian faith to his new post with us. I will announce his starting
date as soon as I know it. Meanwhile we are grateful to all those other
organists who are playing for us during the vacancy. (More
on the music at St Mary's...)
New P.C.C.
Our new P.C.C. had its first meeting on May 14th. We elected
our Standing committee and Vice Chairman; we put ourselves onto various
groups, and we discussed plans for the future. It was a very positive
meeting and unusually finished by 9-45pm. Our two new wardens Hilary
Yates and Barbara Clayton have also commenced their term of office with
confidence and a lot of good will. There are exciting plans for the
future and we will inform you about these as soon as possible.
Summer Fair
Saturday June 7th is the day of the Summer Fair organise this
year by Patricia Hutchison and her team of helpers. It looks very
exciting. The glebe fields are being cut as I write this in
preparation. All it requires to be a great success is fine weather and
for you to come and bring your friends. See you there.
Getting Married
Two members of our congregation James Carrington and Morwena Robertson
are getting married on June 21st in
Cornwall. I have the great privilege of officiating at their wedding.
James was recently confirmed and Morwena attended the classes as a
refresher course for her own faith. We send them our congratulations
and good wishes for their future life together.
The Parish Office
In a perfect world we would have the parish office open all the time
but unfortunately it is not a perfect world and at the meeting of the
P.C.C. it was agreed to limit the parish office opening to 3 mornings a
week. This has been done to enable the office to work as efficiently as
possible. Please note therefore, that the Parish Office will be open on
Mon, Tues and Friday mornings from 9-30am to 12-30pm. Both Phillipa and
myself can always be contacted by phone, fax or e-mail (details in
magazine) and we both endeavour to deal with these messages as quickly
as possible. The deadline for the weekly pew sheet notices will be
midday on Thursday. We shall welcome your cooperation with these new
office hours.

priest and friend
