I
had a very interesting conversation with a lady from Lincolnshire who was
born in Merton - her name now is Mrs Sue All, but her maiden name was Sue
Wetherup and she was born in the Wimbledon Chase area. She went to school at
was then Pelham Secondary School for Girls and her brother went to Rutlish.
Sue had a miserable childhood and sought comfort and peace in St.Mary's
Church - Sue described every nook and cranny of the Church and it was a very
loving memory and my wonder is that do any of our congregation remember this
family ? If so I would be pleased to put them in touch with Sue.
Also the most interesting part of this conversation is that Sue Allan is a
writer and her third book is about to be published - it is called
"Restoration Lady" it is the final part of a Trilogy which started with her
best selling novel "Mayflower Maid" and this third book brings in William
Rutlish and Merton. Perhaps our book reading classes may be interested?
The book is to be published in paperback by Domton on 3 May priced £6.99.
Also of interest reading the original e-mail Sue sent to the Parish Office
the book is being launched at Stow Minster in Lincolnshire after a short
service by the Bishop of Lincoln. She has pledged part of her proceeds from
the copyright in perpetuity to the Saxon Minster to help with repairs and if
she gets an offer for the film rights from her book - Sue says I might be
able to help my old Church too (meaning - I hope - St.Mary’s), but don't
tell Mark just yet!
