By the time you will read this Lent will be well
underway and I hope you are enjoying the thematic sermons which are being preached at
morning and evening services most Sundays during Lent. Our theme for the morning sermons
is the Paradox of the Christian life and the theme in the evening is the story of David.
Those of us who preach will be pleased to have any feedback on these sermons. Full details
of the sermons are in the Lent leaflet.
Mothering Sunday
We have two main services on Mothering Sunday which this year falls on Sunday 10th
March. There will be Parish All Age Worship at 10-00am (please note the time)
when the theme of the service will be Mother Church. This will be a service of
praise. In the evening at 6-30pm there will be the Parish Eucharist.
Holy Week and Easter
This year no sooner had we finished with the season of Epiphany then we were straight into
our planning for Easter. This year it falls really early on 31st March. During
Holy Week there will be opportunities for worship including a weekday Eucharist, Maundy
Thursday with the Feet Washing, sermon and Eucharist and on Good Friday the commemoration
of the Cross. I shall be leading the 2 hours from Noon 2-00pm on the theme Who is
this?
Our Easter Services will begin on Easter Day with the Lighting of the
New Fire and Easter Ceremonies at 5-30am A Eucharist of the dawn! This will be
followed by a shared breakfast. The other Easter services are at 8-00am ,10-00am, and
6-30pm. It is likely that the Eucharist at 10-00am will also include a Baptism. It
therefore follows that on Holy Saturday there will be Compline as usual at 7-00pm.
Curry Evening
This warm occasion was held in January and was a great success. Thank you to the chefs,
others who helped serve and clear up and also the entertainers. Over £800 was raised
towards our outward giving. What a good result!
Wine Tasting
This liquid event took place at the Vicarage on February 7th. It was
organised and hosted my Matthew Winwood ably assisted by his wife Lucy and David Cowie. I
learnt a lot about wines, had a slight hangover the morning after and again over £200 was
raised for outward giving. Thank you to all those who attended. Cheers.
Can I just remind you about the forthcoming Auction?
