‘Health and Safety’ is a matter often
heard about in connection with many official rules and regulations that are
often perceived as part of the more mundane aspects of life. However,
Health and Safety really
is
important to many areas of life at St Mary's, and the PCC are now beginning
the lengthy process of compiling a document to ensure that our church
premises are as safe and healthy as we can make them for
everyone who uses them.
A very wide area has to be considered,
from Fire Safety and First Aid to Working at High Levels, (changing light
bulbs and roof maintenance), and the safe keeping of Hazardous Substances,
(bleach for the toilet, methylated spirits for the Easter Fire,) together
with many other matters. This involves assembling a considerable amount of
knowledge and expertise.
It may be that people reading this
magazine have particular skills and information or practical suggestions to
do with aspects of health and safety, which they would be willing to share
for the benefit of everyone at St Mary's, if so do let us know.
Below is a list of areas which we need
to consider, a few of which, like Child
Protection, are already covered, however
we would welcome assistance in most others.
