Tom's March letter

James Gutteridge leaving
I announced on the 23rd January that James will be leaving his post as Director of Music at Easter this year.  I have to say that this was unexpected and sadly I had to accept James’s resignation.  He has accepted a post in Leicestershire , his home county,  and moves in the middle of March.  James has unstintingly shared his gifts in music and his love of music with many people.  The standard of the choir singing, in my view, has been raised during his time and he has also introduced us all to new music.  We shall be saying our formal farewell to James at the APCM on Palm Sunday.  I am working hard to find a suitable successor.
Sabbatical

I also announced on the 23rd January that I have been granted a Sabbatical which I will be taking from April until July this year.  Arrangements are in hand to cover my absence.  I am undertaking some research into Clergy online support. (Visit the Beyond Pastoral project website)

Holy Week and Easter services
I set out below the major services for Holy Week and Easter.

Palm Sunday
On Palm Sunday there will again be a procession of witness.  Will all able bodied people please assemble at 9-00am at Mostyn Road Gardens and then process from there to the church.  The procession will be a silent procession of witness carrying palms.  We hope that we can arrive at church around 09-30am to start our Palm Sunday Parish Eucharist.  Members of Parish Players will be reading the dramatic reading of the Passion at this service

Monday Tuesday and Wednesday of Holy Week
In addition to the normal services there will be an evening Eucharist at 19.45.  Included in this there will be a short homily.

Maundy Thursday
On Maundy  Thursday there will be the commemoration of the Last Supper and the washing of the feet, stripping of the altar and vigil until Midnight.  This service begins at 2000.

Good Friday
We are fortunate to have as our conductor and preacher at the main service on Good Friday Rev Dr. Jules Gomes who is the chaplain to Greenwich University.  Jules is a eloquent speaker and preacher and will bring a wealth of knowledge and breadth of thinking to our meditation on the Cross.  Please do not miss coming to share with Jules on Good Friday.

Holy Saturday
The Easter Ceremonies and the lighting of the Paschal Candle will take place at 8.00pm on this day.

Easter Day
services for Easter Day are 8-00am Holy Communion (BCP), 9-30am Parish Eucharist with procession,  11-15am  Praise service for Easter, 6-30pm Sung Evensong.

Sadly during the last two months we have lost two regular and loved members of our congregation namely Gerald Jeffrey and William Buckley.  We remember in our prayers all those who mourn their deaths.  May they rest in peace and rise in glory.

Annual Church Meeting
This takes place on Sunday 28th March at 11.15am in the hall.  I read at a school recently the following sentence.  Nobody can do everything, everybody can do something.  Will you come and take your part in the church community and offer what you can for God’s work and the extension of His Kingdom?

Your priest and friend

Tom Leary
