Tom's March letter

M
arch sees a busy programme for St Mary’s and the highlights of that programme are itemised below.  I am pleased to announce that Mrs Liz Brereton has been appointed as our new Parish Administrator and she commenced her duties on the 13th February.  The Parish Office will now be open on every weekday morning from 9.00am to 12.00pm.

Ash Wednesday
By the time you read this Ash Wednesday will nearly be upon us.  It falls this year on the first day of March.  This day marks the beginning of Lent and our preparations for Holy Week and culminating in the triumph of Easter.  There will be a Sung Parish Eucharist with the Imposition of Ashes at 8.00pm.

Parish Confirmation
This service will be held of Sunday March 12th at 6.30pm.  We shall welcome our area Bishop, the Bishop of Kingston who will preside and preach.  Please remember the candidates and the Bishop in your prayers.  The names of the older candidates being confirmed are (in no order) Tina Dunkin, Elaine Fender, Catherine  Stutt, Eric Richards, Rita Hackforth-Jones, Joanna Mitton, Margaret Holmes, Talisa and Sebastian Kyei. Some of the candidates will also be baptised. The younger candidates being confirmed are James Dunkin, Roberta Carroll, Francesca Mason, Rosie Hilson, Alexander Sims and Olivia Cheetham. Everyone is welcome to this service although there will be seats reserved for families and friends of the candidates.

Faith Perspectives
So far this has been a very encouraging event.  I have been struck by the thoughtfulness of the discussion and the quality of the questions after the presentations.  It has also been an interesting mix of new and older members of the church.  It is not easy for newcomers or outsiders to feel included and hopefully some useful contacts have been made to facilitate this process.  We have together shared some deep things about our faith, Our Lord and our understanding of God.  For those who have not yet attended ‘Faith Perspectives’ there are two more presentations this month on the 5th March and the last one on the 19th.  Well done those who have kept the faith this far!

Children’s Praise Service
This month this service will take place on 19th March in the Small Hall.  The theme is bread.

Mothering Sunday 26th March
The main service will be at 10-00am when we will have an ‘All Age’ Eucharist which will focus on Mothering Sunday.

Last but not least, please note that the Annual Church Meeting takes place on Sunday 2nd April so please put this date in your diaries.

Your priest and friend

Tom Leary
