Tom's May letter

This month's Magazine Homepage

May is a month when there are things to look forward to. Some of these events are enjoyable and some of them are sad. Let me deal with the enjoyable events.

Rogation Sunday outdoor Evensong

Weather permitting this will take place in the glebe field on Sunday 5th May at 6-30pm. In the past the weather has been kind to us and people have enjoyed the experience of worshipping out of doors and reflecting on our relationship with the natural world and the rest of creation. We shall say evensong with hymns, address and prayers. Recently 3 Mallard ducks were on the lawn so who knows what we shall see or hear.

Music Review

Hopefully this will also be an enjoyable occasion. This review is at the request of the P.C.C. and will give all of us an opportunity to reflect on our worship and to discuss together the place and future of music in our worship. This will take place in church on Saturday May 11th from 10-00am to 12-30pm. Everybody is welcome to take part but only members of the P.C.C. will be allowed to vote. Our Director of music John Eagles will also be taking part, as will all members of the clergy.

Wilma Roest

Wilma’s last Sunday will be Sunday 26th May. This is the Sunday after Ascension Day a fitting farewell for someone who is leaving us to go up higher in her profession. I hope there will be just one morning service at 10-00am on that Sunday followed by a shared lunch and a farewell in the hall. During the lunch a presentation will be made to Wilma and speeches will be made. Elsewhere in the magazine Patricia Hutchinson has written an appreciation of Wilma and I shall be one of those who speaks at her reception. Needless to say that Wilma has contributed much to the life of the parish during the time she has been with us and also her ministry has touched the hearts and lives of many local people. I hope you can all come to say farewell and Godspeed on her new ministry.

Your priest and friend
