This
month there are many things to look forward to now that Spring is finally
here. But first we glance backwards. The Annual Parish Meeting was held on
Passion Sunday 2nd April. This year Hilary Yates finished her term of
office as churchwarden. We are grateful for the diligence, wisdom and hard
work that Hilary brought to the role of churchwarden. We are also grateful
that Susan Warner has come forward to take her place. Thanks as well to
Anne Carroll who was re-elected as churchwarden and has also served us very
conscientiously during the past year. The annual accounts and elections
took place and we are especially thankful to Mark and those who assist him
in keeping the finances of the church in such good order. The new PCC and
the new churchwardens were commissioned on Palm Sunday.
Holy
Week and Easter were also very encouraging with a very full church on Easter
Sunday and faithful people who had observed much of the Holy Week
ceremonies. It was especially good to have Karl back leading the music and
we wish him a full recovery from his recent illness.
Rogation Sunday
This year it falls on Sunday May 14th and as usual, weather
permitting, Evensong will be held outside in the Glebe fields. Winter being
much longer this year means that the birdsong could be especially good this
year. I hope many will come to compete with the birds.
Ascension Day
This year it is on Thursday May 25th. Ascension is not as
popular as it was in past times. This may be because of some liturgical
changes which have introduced the festival of Christ the King and the
Kingdom season just before Advent but also because its popularity has
diminished because as a Feast Day it is more difficult to comprehend than
others.
However it is still a major festival and there will be a Eucharist at
10-30am on that day and I hope many people will be able to come.
Summer Fair
This will take place on Saturday June 17th in the Glebe Fields
and please put this date in your diaries and offer as much help as you can
to Alan Hay the organiser.

priest and friend
