I did not report on the first meeting of the
new PCC on the 14th May because it was largely taken up with bureaucratic
matters, such as organising the various committees, deciding future dates etc.
The next
meeting took place on the 16th
July and was well attended and lively.
An Away
Day for the Council has been arranged on the 25th October. Discussion will take place on the
video sent to all churches by the Archbishop of Canterbury, implementing the Vision
Statement and the organising of a new service for younger families and their children to
start in January 2004.
The Hon. Treasurer
reported that there had been some decrease in Promised Offerings, and the fact that there
was a need for a steady increase in the scheme, rather than a boost every three
years. Further visiting will be arranged.
No solution has
yet been found in connection with the flooded tombs at the east end of the church.
Further surveys and discussions with the architects are taking place and it is hoped that
some money might be obtained to help with the necessary work from various charitable
foundations.
A new notice board
outside the church will soon be in position and repairs to the Hall car park are now
complete. Some income will be received from the rental of a few car parking spaces.
A resolution
was passed unanimously supporting Canon Jeffrey John and a letter has been sent to the
Bishop of Southwark.
