August is a different month in the life of the church and it is during this month when things are quieter that I try to get away and as someone else put it ’wasting time with God’   By the time you read this I hope I have done some praying, meditating, reading and thinking about ministry and our Christian life together.

September is when everything starts up again.  Mostly holidays are over, the pace quickens, schools start up and work beckons on a daily basis.  The opportunities for reflection are more difficult to come by.  To help with this reflection there is printed elsewhere in this magazine the first part of a story which I hope every P.C.C. member will read, as well as all other readers, in preparation for their away day in October.  I am indebted to Steven Croft and his book ‘Transforming Communities’ for this story.

By the way I did have some response to the July sermon and letter that I wrote in that months magazine.  The theme was Christian Unity I would welcome further feed back.

Nick Baines our Archdeacon is coming during the autumn to give us a series of sermons on the Old Testament at Evensong.  The first of these will be on our Patronal Festival Sunday 8th September,  Nick will be preaching then on Creation.  The other dates he will be coming are 19th October, 10th November and the 8th December. The other likely subjects are the Exodus, the Prophets and Wisdom/Psalms.

The last Sunday in this month is our Harvest Festival and details of the services and shared lunch will be in the calendar and on the pew sheets.   Please note the change of time of the morning service.  In the evening we will have a Parish Eucharist when we shall celebrate the feast of St. Michael and All Angels

We welcome as our celebrant and preacher on Sunday 21st September Christopher Davis the Vicar of St. Mary’s Wimbledon.

I hope all this gives food for prayer and reflection

Your priest and friend.

Tom Leary
