Tom's September letter

I
am reading a book entitled ‘In Praise of Slow’ by Carl Honore.  It is a plea for us not to be ruled by dictums like ‘time is money’ or ‘Oh I’m run off my feet life is so busy.’  This book comes to mind this month.  I always think of September as a month when the pace picks up again after the August slow down.  Schools return from the summer holidays, churches launch their autumn programmes, the holiday period is over. It is important in the Christian lifestyle to have periods of contemplation and daydreaming where we risk ‘a pause now and then – a Sabbath moment to assess where we are going, how quickly we wish to get there – and more important why?’

‘Talking Points’
Hopefully this will give all of us one of those ‘Sabbath’ moments where with others we can reflect on the meaning of life.  I am sorry we had some glitches with the publicity and thanks to all those who worked to correct any mistakes.  Advertising these evenings is continuing and I hope you will be successful in persuading your friends and neighbours to come.  The chain of prayer on Thursday 23rd of September is also crucially important so please sign up and take part in the chain of prayer for ‘Talking Points’.

Patronal Festival
Sunday 12th September is our Patronal Festival.  There will be a shared Patronal lunch as well as our festive services.  On Saturday 11th September is our Gift Day for outward giving.  We gave over £1000 to the Sudan Disaster Emergency Fund can we also raise this £5000 for the charities we support on an annual basis which include the 2 major Missionary Societies CMS and USPG?

 Evening Praise
We recommence our Evening Praise Service in the Hall on Sunday 26th September at 5-00pm.  The music group and some of our young people are working with me to plan this series of services.  We welcome all people to this service.

I have mentioned several opportunities for ‘Sabbath Moments’ and I hope you will avail yourself of all or some of them.

 Your priest and friend

 Tom Leary
